To comply with Brazos ISD’s medication administration policy and Texas State Law, please review the following information for medication administration:
  1. According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, it is best practice for a medication to be administered at home by the parent or guardian. Therefore, a medication that needs to be taken 3 times a day can be taken before school, after school, and at bedtime.
  2. All medication (prescription or over the counter) must be brought to the school by a parent or guardian. Medications cannot be brought to the school or sent home with students.
  3. All over the counter mediations must be brought in the original, factory sealed container. Prescription medication must be in the original container with a current pharmacy label.
  4. Medication at school will be kept in the clinic in a locked cabinet.
  5. A mediation authorization form must be signed for all medications that are to be administered to the student.
  6. the Nursing Practice Act (NPA) states that registered nurses "administer a medication or treatment as ordered by a physician, podiatrist, or dentist" [NPA 301.002(2)(C)]. Due to this standard, ANY medication requiring school administration for more than 15 days, or 3 consecutive days, must have a physician's authorization (even over the counter pain medications).
  7. In the event that the school nurse us unavailable, a Trained Unlicensed Assistive Personnel will administer medication to the students. Permission to administer medication is granted to employees of the school district when authorized by the superintendent, school principals, or health service coordinators, and is trained by the school nurse.

This policy is necessary to protect the health and safety of our child. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter for those reasons.

Below are medical forms that must be filled out by the parent/guardian if medical care and/or medication is to be administered in the school setting.

Medical Standing Orders for the district are signed each year by a physician and approved by the school board. These allow the district to provide basic first aid for our students. If you wish to view this year's orders, please click the link below.

If you have any questions, please call the nurse at (979)478-6032.

Our vision:
