Brazos Middle School

Brazos Cougars

6th Grade Pre-Athletics

The Brazos Middle School Pre-Athletic Class is a Physical Education class which is designed to prepare 6th grade students for the Brazos Middle School Athletic Program in the 7th grade. Students participating in Pre-Athletics should anticipate daily workouts during the class period that are significantly more physical and mentally demanding than what they may experience in a regular P.E. class. Students will focus on athletic conditioning, strength and character building. The Pre-Athletic class will also focus on sports in-season at the time; ex: Football, Basketball and Track. Students will learn skills, drills and rules for those sports as well.

  1. Respect yourself and others (In this class and in all other!) BMS athletes do not show up on detention/ISS lists and don’t disrespect teachers, administrators or other students!
  2. Students are expected to be in class on time and it’s also their responsibility to arrive at their next class on time.
  3. No Horse Play/Negative Talking
  4. No Jewelry
  5. Keep the locker room clean, put your belongings away in your locker and lock it! (WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST OR STOLEN ITEMS!)
  6. The locker room is not a “hang out.” Students are expected to get in and out of the locker room as quickly as possible when coming to class and before leaving. (COACHES SUPERVISING)
  7. We hope to develop a basic knowledge of skills, sportsmanship and understanding of each sport
  8. We hope to encourage growth through interaction with others in individual and team activities.
  9. We hope to develop leadership skills, encourage the proper care of personal and school property, and to respect the rights of other students.

Students will be required to bring their own combination lock for their locker. (Coaches will have a record of the lock combination in their office)

Pre-Athletic workout clothes will be provide by the school.  Clothes will be washed daily by the coaches.  They are not be taken home for any reason.

Students will start with a 100 and two points will be deducted from the student’s grade for any of the following infractions…..

If a student has been ill or absent from school, and the parent feels the illness has been of such seriousness that limited or no physical activity should be engaged in, a written excuse must be sent to school with the student on the day they are to be excused. A parental excuse will be honored for a maximum of three (3) days. Excuses for more than three (3) days must come from a physician.

4th Offense: Office referral

Words of encouragement to Brazos Middle School athletes and parents:

The Pre-Athletics program at BMS is a wonderful opportunity to take Cougar Athletics to the next level of competition. In the beginning of the school year, the intensity of the workouts can be a little intimidating to the new students and their parents but once they condition their minds and bodies to the expectations of the class, great things will begin to happen. Students will carry a sense of accomplishment beyond the athletic class, and they are able to use their newfound confidence in their schoolwork and their everyday lives!

In addition, we will be promoting a high standard of excellence and achievement both in the classroom and on the field of play. We expect our student athletes to conduct themselves as positive role models and be the best behaved students in our school. Most of all we want our 6th grade athletes to have fun and believe in themselves as they gain confidence through sports!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. We are here to help our students. We are interested in our students and want to provide a good Pre-Athletics program for them. We are not trying to be hard on anyone by requiring certain rules. We feel that these rules and expectations will bring better results in our classes and will promote PERSONAL/SCHOOL PRIDE in our students!
