Ryan Baker has been coaching and teaching in Houston area public schools for 26 years, including 20 years coaching softball. I spent 7 years as the assistant softball coach at Foster High School in Richmond, and in 2013, his last season there, the team was a Texas State Semi-Finalist. The next year, Ryan took the opportunity to become a head coach at Alief Elsik High School, where he was there for three years. He led a then-struggling program to 25 wins in three seasons, adding to his total of 230+ coaching wins in 7 softball seasons. He spent 5 years as the Head Softball Coach and Assistant Football Coach at Cypress Springs. I spent the past 4 years at Katy Paetow High School as the Head Softball Coach. This will be my first year at Brazos High School as the Head Softball Coach, Assistant Volleyball Coach, Assistant Basketball Coach, and the Girls Strength and Conditioning Coordinator. I will be teaching Special Education.
Ryan’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science from Abilene Christian University and a Masters in Educational Management from UH Clear Lake. His time in the classroom has included teaching PE, Health, and Special Education. Personally, as a father of a child with profound disabilities and special needs, he has a unique empathy and insight in working with special education students.
Ryan is a proud native Texan and Houstonian who enjoys spending time at his family’s East Texas ranch, reading motivational coaching books, and watching HGTV. I am a huge Texas A&M fan, and attends games in College Station whenever possible. Ryan has been married to Elizabeth since 2008, and together they have three children: Grayson (2010), Charlotte (2013) and Nolan (2015). His greatest joy in life is being a husband and father.
Ryan is a firm believer in hard work, discipline and teaching correct softball fundamentals. To him, just as important as the mechanics of the game, however, is the teaching of responsibility and character development. One of his main strengths as a coach is motivating players to succeed both on and off the field.
