My name is Janie Hlavinka and I am so excited to be returning to Brazos High School for my 26th year of teaching! I was a first year teacher and coach here at BHS in 1994 and taught here until 2000 when I became a stay at home mom. After that I spent one year at George Jr High in Lamar CISD and 13 years at Morton Ranch High School in Katy ISD. This is my 4th year back at Brazos, and I am thrilled to be teaching Math Models, Geometry and Algebra 2.
I attended high school just a few miles down Hwy 60 and continue to live in East Bernard with my husband, Brian, and my boys. I attended Texas A&M University and have a BS in Animal Science and a MS in Agricultural Economics. I got my teacher certification through Prairie View A&M University.
We are an Aggie Family and we love to spend time cooking together and enjoying family time on the weekends with our large extended family. We are somewhat empty nesters, but we love having our boys in and out of the house. I have 2 grandbabies, but the US Air Force keeps them overseas. My husband and I love spending weekends going to concerts, Aggie Football games, and out to eat. We also enjoy hunting, boating, being outdoors, cooking new recipes and hanging out with family and friends. When we do get to travel to new places, we love to eat at restaurants featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
I am looking forward to this school year and I can’t wait to spend the year growing and learning with you!
